Holy Communion
| In concert with the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, Heritage Lutheran Church
practices "Closed Communion." In order to partake of this sacrament one must be
a communicant member of an LC-MS congregation, or a communicant member of a Lutheran
Church that is in altar fellowship with the LC-MS. If you have any questions regarding
participation in this sacrament please see the Pastor or an Elder prior to worship.
Please refer to our Worship Services page for the schedule of worship services that
will include Holy Communion.
The following questions and answers regarding Holy Communion are taken from Luther's Small
Catechism. |
What is the Sacrament of the Altar?
| Instituted by Christ himself, it is the true body and blood of our
Lord Jesus Christ, under the bread and wine, given to us Christians to eat and drink. |
Where is this written?
| The holy evangelists Matthew, Mark, Luke, and also St. Paul write
thus: "Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when he was betrayed, took bred, and when
he had given thanks, he broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, 'Take, eat; this
is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.' In the same way also he
took the cup, after supper, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them saying, 'Drink
of it all of you. This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for many
for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.'
