News From Our Trustees

The board of trustees brought to the voters meeting in April information regarding bids for replacing the roof over Parish Hall (flat kitchen roof included).  It was explained to the voters that four roofing contractors were contacted for bids.

At the time of the meeting we only had two bids in hand, one at about $40,000 and one at about $66,000.  It was explained that our existing roof consists of three layers of shingles on the Parish Hall, with the tie in roofs from the Sanctuary still having cedar shakes on them.  The bid also included new gutters with fascia, drip edge, and gutter apron with four downspouts for east side of building.  Currently we have NO fascia and two downspouts.  This is why during a heavy rain or when ice dams form we get leakage into the Parish Hall on our new windows.  Also included in these bids were dollars for O.S.B. sheeting to cover the 1” X 8” roof boards from the 1930’s.  It is logical to think they have shrunk leaving gaps between boards, so when nailing new shingles, the O.S.B. eliminates the possibility of missing the roof deck wood (the cost for O.S.B. is around $8,000).

The voters were informed that a small leak has started in the hallway between the Sanctuary and Parish Hall by the Altar Guild room and will continue to get worse as time goes on.  We also explained about our newly-repaired Sunday School rooms (around $70,000), new windows, new paint job on ceiling in the Parish Hall, and about $4,000 of insulation was blown into ceiling.

The trustees apologize that only 2 bids were in hand.  There were contacts made of two contractors every other day for the 10 days prior to the meeting to get the other bids in hand but to no avail.  At the July voters meeting we will present two to three additional bids.

The voters were asked to go home and pray and ponder, for the July meeting, what decision should be made.   Do we continue to take a risk of damaging thousands of dollars of new work already done, or do we find the monies to put a new roof on.

Please pray for our congregation to make proper decisions at our July voters meeting.

Thank you,

The Board of Trustees.

P.S.  A Great Big Welcome to Rich Stocker our newest Trustee!!
